About Us
VHCB supports the development of affordable housing and the conservation of Vermont's agricultural and recreational lands, forestland, natural areas an historic community buildings. Nationally known for our innovative combination of housing and conservation work, our broad mission promotes concentrated development in town and village centers while keeping Vermont's working lands and natural landscape intact. Since 1987, VHCB funding has assisted with the creation of 13,400 permanently affordable homes and with the conservation of more than 400,000 acres of farmland and natural areas, supporting additions to state parks, the creation of new town forests, and securing permanent public access to land and water for various recreational pursuits.
We work with a statewide network of nonprofit organizations, municipalities and state agencies that take on community and economic development challenges to create opportunity and improve the quality of life for Vermonters. VHCB investments preserve the unique features of Vermont's renown landscape, continuing traditional uses while also expanding trail networks and recreational assets that are central to the state's recreational economy and boost tourism.
We value a collaborative style of work and provide opportunities for staff training and development. With a staff of approximately 40 we maintain a friendly, collegial atmosphere. Most staff are working remotely and we anticipate a measured return to the workplace after the summer months as COVID calms down.
